Description
This bracelet is made of small wooden beads, first cut out from scrap pieces of wood. They are then hand carved and polished, and individually etched with patterns and eventually stained. In the final process, the carved patterns are carefully painted in with a wax-based dye. A flat wooden piece with ‘intrinsic’ carved in completes the bracelet – a reminder of the intrinsic value of both the owner and the designer.
These bracelets are designed by a group in the slum of Kibera called ‘Victory Youth Group.’ Unable to find employment, these young men and women began looking around their slum for trash, which they transformed into beautiful pieces of jewelry. Determined to forge their own futures, they used their creativity to make a business. Each bracelet is eco-friendly through the use of scrap materials, and a testament to their journey.
Size: 7.75′ circumference
